Tansu chest purchased in Japan. Beautiful Japanese kimono dansu clothing
chest tansu, Taisho period, c. 1912-1926. Fine, lightweight kiri (paulownia)
wood. Simple, beautiful double doors swing open to reveal cabinet space
within, housing sturdy pull-out trays for storing folded clothing or, as
was traditional, kimono. Drawers below offer additional storage options.
Lovely, light metalwork throughout. Gracefully formed warabite handles
echo the natural arc of the warabi, the Japanese mountain fern that
gives them their name. A charming piece of tansu craftsmanship, and a
fine example of the beauty and functionality found in the Japanese
